system-infos

kpsewhich –var-value=TEXMFHOME
/home/pi/texmf
kpsewhich –var-value=TEXMFVAR
/home/pi/.texmf-var
kpsewhich –var-value=TEXMFCONFIG
/home/pi/.texmf-config
kpsewhich –all updmap.cfg
/usr/share/texmf/web2c/updmap.cfg
/usr/share/texlive/texmf/web2c/updmap.cfg
/usr/share/texlive/texmf-dist/web2c/updmap.cfg

using fonts as files (no installation)

copy the fonts files to your directory (same as tex-file)
  olss12.mf
  olss12.tfm
  olss12.600pk
in the preamble set your font name \font\olsstwelve to the files of olss12 ()
\font\olsstwelve=olss12 scaled 1000

write text in the new fonts like with a reference to the font:
here is my new font:\\{\olsstwelve this is the new font}
installing fraktur from http://www.gaehrken.de/fraktur/
move the files to your latex-dirs

using utf8 files and german „umlaute“ (ö, ä etc.) is tricky – i had to transfer the files to windows and convert the encoding to utf8. with iconv i was not able to realise a valid pdf file 😦
